What is cornhole?

For the uninitiated, it is a simple bag toss game similar to horseshoes, except with bags and boards instead of horse shoes and metal stakes. The bags are often filled with corn, hence the name, cornhole.

I’m not very sporty. Will I be able to play?

Yes! Anyone can play cornhole. It’s a great game for kids and adults alike. If you can toss a bean bag, you can play cornhole. No special skills or talents are needed to have a blast playing cornhole. Families will love the versatility of this game as much as competitive players will love playing official tournament-style games.

Where can I play cornhole?

The short answer is…anywhere! Some of the most popular places to play include beaches, campgrounds, backyard BBQs and tailgate parties, but you can play indoors too.

What do I need to play cornhole?

One of the best things about cornhole is how easy it is to set up and get playing. To play cornhole, all you need are boards and bags. All of our sets come complete with everything you need to instantly start playing:

  • 2 Boards: Our board sets range in size from a tiny desktop version to full-size tournament boards.
  • 8 Bags: Full-size bags are 6″ x 6″, 100% corn-filled and weigh 16 oz.

How do I play cornhole?

Setting up to play is very simple. Start by finding the flattest surface possible to play on, then space out the boards 27 feet apart from front edge to front edge.

Players take turns pitching bags at opposing boards with the goal of scoring points by pitching a bag in the hole. Play continues until each player has thrown four bags, then scores are tallied and play continues.

Traditionally, 21 points are needed to win. For all of the official rules visit: https://americancornhole.com/rules/

Can I play cornhole indoors?

Absolutely! Cornhole is a great game to play indoors and moving the game indoors means you can play year-round! Unless you are hosting an official tournament and need to maintain 27′ spacing between boards, you can adjust the distance between your boards as space allows. Alternatively, you can use just one board if there isn’t enough room to use both. If space is really at a premium consider our desk-top version that works virtually anywhere.

You said I can adjust the spacing. Does that mean I can change up other aspects of the game?

Yup! Cornhole is fun to play in the classic way, but there are tons of ways to put your own spin on it.

  • Add fitness challenges winner-loser games.
  • Go long! See who can pitch the bag into the hole from the farthest distance.
  • Try trick shots from under the leg or blindfolded.
  • Raise the stakes with betting! Put money, treats or other prizes on the line.
  • Make it a drinking game.
  • Win by 2. Make the game harder for well-matched competitors…players can only win if they score at least 2 more points than their competitor.
  • Score exactly 21.
  • Play from inside a pool!
  • 7/21. layers get 7 bags and whoever gets closest to 21 wins.
  • Cornhole-In-One.

As you can see, cornhole brings a lot of fun to any gathering. It’s easy to learn and play, can be played year-round and offers a ton of versatility to customize your game depending on who you are playing with.

And if all of that weren’t enough, it’s the perfect game to play in these socially-distant times. You can play outdoors, with as few as two people, while players stay 27′ apart for most of the game!
